Mission Trips at Mountains of Grace

“People think that when they decide to go on a short term mission trip that they are coming here to change lives. The truth is that when short term missionaries come to Guatemala they don’t change lives, they save them.” - An Anonymous Guatemalan

One of the great benefits of choosing to do a mission trip with Mountains of Grace is that your trip can be completely customized based on the talents, calling, and needs of your group. From group size, mission type, and time of year, Mountains of Grace can meet the specific needs of your group.

Your group will be able to make a lasting impact in the community of San Felipe de Jesus as you serve in the name of Jesus and help to grow the ministry of Mountains of Grace. Your team will stay in safe and secure housing in the beautiful city of Antigua. They will eat authentic local food which can be adjusted to dietary needs.

Mission Types

At Mountains of Grace, we believe with all of our heart that the Lord is glorified through short term mission trips. You will be amazed at how the Lord grows your faith as you are stretched out of your comfort zone while you are serving the people in Guatemala. Your group will be able to connect with another culture and impact them in a way that will change their lives for eternity. In the same way, they will change you forever.

We are able to accommodate a variety of mission groups at Mountains of Grace:

Repair a roof. Build a house for a family. Build a retainment wall to protect a community from a mudslide.

If you are interested in a short term mission trip focused on a construction project, we will provide a local contractor and teach your team everything they need to know to help finish the project. Your team will learn how to paint, mix concrete, lay block, and a variety of skills alongside local Guatemalans. You will also have time to get to know the families you are serving. Previous experience in construction is appreciated, but not required! We will teach you and we will both be blessed.

Vacation Bible School

At the Refuge, the community center run by Mountains of Grace, we offer an afterschool program to about 75 children. You will get to know these children in any type of mission trip you take with us, but you can also focus your mission trip to offer them a Bible School program. You will have the opportunity to play games with the children, do crafts, and teach them God’s word.

There is a great need for medical, vision and dental care in Guatemala. If you are an individual or a group with skills in medicine, we will be able to offer clinics to our village of San Felipe and to the surrounding communities with your help.

Women’s Ministry

If you are an individual woman or a group of women looking to pour into the lives of other women of another culture, we would love to have you come work with the women at the Refuge. We offer cooking classes and women’s bible studies on a weekly basis. Contact us for more information on how you can plug into our programs or offer your own program to impact the women of San Felipe.

Education in Guatemala has been steadily improving since the signing of the Peace Accords in 1996, but there is still a need for educators( even short term educators!) If you are an individual teacher, student teacher, or group of teachers or people interested in Education, we would love your help at the Refuge. We teach children, youth, and adults on a daily basis. The children come for help with their homework and tutoring. The youth and adults come to receive their GED if they were not able to finish school. And we offer an English class to youth and adults. We would love your help!

The housing facility for Mountains of Grace is located in Antigua, Guatemala. Antigua is known as much for its history as for its beauty. You will be surrounded by beautiful mountains and volcanoes while you walk the cobblestone streets and appreciate the unique architecture and culture of Antigua. The small city attracts tourists from all over the world and is safe for travelers.

Groups will stay in the restored ruins of a Catholic Monastery. There are separate rooms and bathrooms for boys and girls, a dining room, a room for meetings/devotions, a courtyard, and a beautiful terrace with a view of the city. Leaders may be housed separately upon request.

If you are coming to work with us as an individual, you will be housed with a family in Antigua. These are families with close relationships to Mountains of Grace and you will be taken care of as if you were family.
